Programs that monitor water quality and issue bulletins to inform the public when ocean beaches, lakes, rivers or other bodies of water have temporarily been closed and are unavailable for swimming, fishing or other recreation due to sewage or chemical spills or discharges, high amounts of rainfall that affect bacteria levels or other problems that have an effect on water quality.
