Call or go online to begin the process. Once an application is approved, the waiting period can range from two months to a year, with an average of about six months.

A new program also can provide comfort dogs to Gold Star Families (where a member serving in the military has passed away). The dogs and services are provided at no cost to recipients.

Eligibility
In order to qualify for a dog for those with PTSD, the applicant must: *Be active, retired or inactive military and have been diagnosed with service-related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by a licensed health care professional *If retired or separated, must be honorably discharged *Be at least 18 years of age *Reside in one of the 48 contiguous United States *Be working in concert with either the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or a Wounded Warrior Advocacy Program *Have no felony convictions. ***Call or go online for full qualifications, as well as for the eligibility for Gold Star Family Dogs and other programs.***
