Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to read highlights from national newspapers, articles from periodicals or novels, and other special interest reading material on the radio or record the material for use by telephone reading services that provide people with visual impairments or other disabilities that limit their ability to read print material with access to recorded tapes or readings from current popular publications. Also included are programs that read written material onto audiocassettes for use by people with visual impairments or others who have difficulty reading.
Sign Language Volunteer Opportunities
Organizations that are actively seeking individuals who are proficient in American Sign Language or other systems such as Signing Exact English (which involves manually coded English) and are willing to use their skills to benefit the agency or the people it serves on a voluntary basis without remuneration. Sign language volunteers help staff members or clients who are deaf or have hearing impairments and hearing individuals communicate with one another.
